SportsPlex member spotlight

Highlighting a longstanding member of the Orange County SportsPlex:

Jerry Webster-

Happy 20 year Anniversary, Thank you for being such a loyal patron.-from the Orange County SportsPlex

IMG_20150903_094741529My name is Jerry Webster, I own and operate Webster’s Cleaners here in Hillsborough since 1976. I have lived in Hillsborough since 1961, and graduated from Orange High School in 1965.

I started aerobics at age 40, after my elderly great aunts told me heart attacks run in my family from ages 40-50. After being with aerobics for several years, my wife talked me into going with her to the SportsPlex to work with a private trainer, Beth Althieser. I did weight training with her 3 nights a week for 4 years. My best friends Thomas Stephens and George Coe soon joined us and we gained more strength than men our age could ever dream. At age 55, I won a bench press competition at 235 lbs. I only weighed 160 lbs!

I always tell new members that the “front door” is the hardest exercise- you have to open the door to come in and begin.

I have been a member at the SportsPlex since August 1995 and I have seen many changes in these 20 years. When I began, the weight room was beside the locker room. After the remodeling, the weight lifting and cardio machines were moved upstairs. This gave a better flow for workouts and more machines were added.

Even though I don’t still use a personal trainer, they have always been friendly and helpful. The SportsPlex staff always have big smiles. This means you- Susan, Lori, Kathy and Rita- keep up the good work.

Thank you Sportsplex,

Jerry Webster
