Aerobics and Other Group Exercise Classes at the Triangle Sportsplex

Land, water, and bike...

The Sportsplex offers a number of group exercise classes in the water and on the land to cover all aspects of your personal fitness. Our expert teams of nationally certified instructors teach with an emphasis on fun, encouragement, and personal attention!

Land Group Exercise Class Descriptions

     Below is a sample of of some of the classes we offer.  Please check our      monthly schedules for more details.  Must be 14 years old to participate in     Group Exercise Classes.

Step and Step X-press- Step is a fast paced, fun, bench stepping class with moves on and off the bench. Routines are easy to follow and  provide great cardiovascular and toning benefits. Beginners are welcome in the Step class, but the Step X-press is designed for the intermediate/advanced stepper.

Abs & Arms- This half hour class features the use of optional resistance equipment like weights and resistance bands to tone the abdomen and arms. Attention is given to individual needs and all fitness levels are welcome to attend. It is strongly recommended you be “warmed up” just prior to joining this class.

Yoga‐ Classes are based on the Hatha style of Yoga, but each instructor brings their own unique style and expertise to
the class.


Yoga Basics‐ Great for beginners or those who want to refresh themselves with the finer details of Yoga.


Pilates‐ Similar to Yoga moves, but concentrates on core muscle groups. Power Pilates is done in a fast moving
sequence to tone your core and work your heart.


Yoga Stretch‐ An instructor will guide you through relaxation and stretching sequences. Yoga experience not required.


Tai Chi‐ Practice of this "moving meditation" is reported to reduce stress, improve health, increase flexibility and
strength, enhance self awareness and bring balance and harmony. Beginner and experienced students welcome.  

Zumba‐ Workout combines high energy and motivating music with Latin flavored dance moves and combinations. Easy to learn and fun! Zumba Gold is a lower intensity, slower and less “twisty” version.

Firm & Tone- Head to toe toning best describes this class! Whether you use resistance bands or hand weights, this class is structured to target all the major muscle groups using a variety of ever changing exercises. Beginners are welcome.

 

Interval- This class takes strength training moves and adds cardio intensity moves to create a powerful workout that tones, strengthens and shapes the whole body. The cardio and strength moves are done in alternating “intervals”. A variety of equipment and movements are used. This class is appropriate for beginners through advanced.

 

Basic Conditioning- Join us in the Spin room for some gentle exercise and stretching in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The class is appropriate for Seniors of all exercise levels and is easily adapted for those who need to sit while they exercise.

Hatha Yoga and Pilates- Both classes offer strengthening, relaxation and flexibility, but Pilates really focuses on the working the core muscles of the body. Hatha Yoga is a gentler, flowing style with a concentration on relaxation. Monday night focuses on athletes who want to add more core strength and flexibility.

Run Club-Join other runners for an energetic run. Meet at the Front Desk to stretch and receive the run destination. Runs will vary from local runs around the SportsPlex to nearby trails. New runners and veterans are welcome. We will have tips to help all levels. Families are welcome, but children must be able to keep up with the class. Kids under 16 need to be accompanied by a parent.  Contact the Fitness Director, ext. 232 for more information.

20/20/20- This class has it all! 20 minutes of step, 20 minutes of hi/low and 20 minutes of firm & tone. Great class for all levels of fitness and experience. If you are new to step, this is a great class to get a taste of it.

Circuit Training‐ Stations of strength training or cardio are positioned around the room. Participants spend a designated amount of time at each station before moving to the next.


Kickboxing‐ High energy/ High intensity. Choreographed routines w/ upper and lower body moves based on martial arts and boxing. You do not need to know any martial arts to participate.


Pace Setters Cardio Sculpt‐ Specifically designed for members 55 and older. Focuses on Cardio, strength and balance. Class meets in lobby by the front desk then goes to the Sr. Center.


Prenatal Exercise‐ This class is in the pool and is run by Healthy Mom’s NC. You will need to preregister for this class at www.healthymomsnc.com


Hoopnatics‐ Like Zumba, you get a cardio and core workout, but this classes used the Hoola Hoop to work you out. A fun class for all levels of fitness.

Spin Classes (indoor cycling)

Please pick up your “reserve tag” at the front desk no earlier than 15 minutes before class starts. Class is limited to 9 participants and are on a first come, first serve basis.



Inverval Spin - Participants are on and off of the bike in this class. When on the bike they are climbing or concentrating on riding flat roads in a bigger gear. Time off the bike is spent with bike specific strength training exercises using weights.

Basic Spin- Great for all levels of skill and fitness, this class gives you a classic cardio workout set to great music. The instructor will cue you to change the speed and resistance of your bike while giving you mental images of hills and flat sprints to enhance your workout

2nd Chance Spin- Same as the Basic Spin, just offered 45 minutes later. For those who got closed out of the first class or for those who chose to take the Firm & Tone class first.

Spin &…: For triathletes, wanna-be triathletes, or people who just want the benefits of cross-training. Focus on riding skills and endurance. Bring your running and swimming gear to Russell’s class. You will spin for at least 30 min. possibly the entire hour BUT he likes to throw in a run or a swim sometimes following the 30 minute spin session.

Race & Ride- This class is set up to resemble the pace and workout of an outdoor ride. You might get a ride along with a taped “Tour de France” segment, an interval ride or a simulated race day ride.

Endurance Spin- Join Kari for an endurance workout. Let the music (and Kari) push you to working at your lactate threshold.
