Triangle Sportsplex tri club

I have worked them, attended them, cheered my husband and son on at them and even was the Director of one, but I have never personally participated in a Triathlon.  I love the enthusiasm and the crowd cheering the participants on.  I love the excitement at the finish line and the anticipation at the start line.  I love hot chocolate at the March Tri's and cold water at the August ones.  Problem is, I don't love swimming, biking or running.

On my "relaxing" beach vacation, my sister talked me into running with her.  She is on the "Couch potato to 5k" workout.  There was a lot of walking involved between the running, so I thought I could survive it.  Turns out, it wasn't that bad.  Not that I am ready for the 5k part, but if I stay with the programs graduated increases, I will be ready in 9 weeks or so.  Okay, the loathsome running part is becoming less loathsome.  Dare I even consider conquering the swim/bike part?

I pop my head in a Spin class on Monday night just to check in with everyone.  So many faces are familiar to me from the Triathlons that I have attended.  How many of these people never thought in a million years they would do a triathlon?  Once the question is voiced out loud, a quick show of hands indicated the answer is "most of them"!  So, how did they end up doing it?  What's their secret?

Turns out there is no one answer.  It's different for everyone.  Some liked the challenge.  Some eased into it with spin classes and the run club.

Some come from a swimming background and added the running, and some are "roadies" (bikers for those of us not in the know...).  Some are still training for their first tri.  The common denominator in everyone's answer was the SportsPlex Tri Club.

If you need help with a training schedule or finding a workout to fit your needs, this is the place to start.  I went to the forum and found workouts for every level and tips to help me get started.  I just missed out on a bike clinic (assuming I had a bike), but I still have time to make the run clinic (lucky me...).

I'm sure I'm not totally sold on this tri idea, but if I deicde to do it, I know I will have a good support group to rely on.  If you are interested in doing a tri or if you are already a triathlete looking for a support group, check out the SportsPlex Tri Club.  Look for the club information under the Fitness page.
